We had experts Ashley Storer-Smith, Student Voice Manager at the University of Nottingham, and Isaiah Poulet, Student Voice Coordinator at Sunderland Students’ Union, sharing proven strategies to drive continued and deeper rep engagement.

- Introduction of the Audit tool by Ashley, a digital solution for evaluating student representation systems, along with a journey through the history of rep recognition and reward, showcasing successful strategies and approaches.
- Isaiah’s segment draws upon case studies from the University of Sunderland and the University of Leicester, demonstrating non-financial recognition and reward methods such as Accreditation, Certificates, Awards, and skill-based Training.
- An interactive Jamboard session permitting the exchange of ideas and strategies, enabling peer learning and broadening understanding of student rep reward and recognition.

Isaiah is a Student Voice Coordinator in Representation at the University of Sunderland Students’ Union. This is his second Academic Representation role, not including his time as a Student Representative. Isaiah has an interest in student-centred development, with representatives as the co-creators of university systems, and has advocates for further inclusion of distance learners and placement students within Students’ Unions. He continues to champion the successes of the representatives he works with, empowering reps to share their stories and shout about their own achievements.

Ashley is the current Student Voice Manager at University of Nottingham Students’ Union. They have worked for a wide range of Students’ Unions from small & specialist to Russell Group, as well as a range of areas around student engagement. Ashley’s work has been published by Wonkhe & Alkhemy as well as presented at significant conferences around Student Engagement including RAISE, CAN, QAA, and NUS Membership Services Conference. Ashley’s specialty within Student Engagement is student campaigning & protest, digital engagement, course representation, and students as partners.
